The base plate
An important
element in karts is the base plate.
This element serves as a foot rest and protects the legs from small stones which could be on the track, or from sand and large stones in the case of off-track driving.
In addition, according to the thickness used, it can increase the frame’s transversal or longitudinal rigidity at the front by simply bending the plane or adding a series of ribs.
There are no norms as regards the thickness of the base plate but there are restrictions as regards building materials; the use of composite materials is prohibited and the base plate must be made of rigid material and must cover the distance from the tube in front of the seat to the front tube of the frame.
If it perforated, the holes must not exceed 10mm in diameter.
